You can register online to save time and guarantee your child a spot in the league. Simply follow the link provided on our website to complete the registration process.

For those who prefer to register in person, please refer to the Calendar for scheduled in-person registration dates. These typically take place on Wednesdays from 6–8 PM and Saturdays from 10 AM–3 PM at IS52 or the league office.

If you are new to the league, please bring the following: proof of age (such as a birth certificate or passport), proof of address (such as a utility bill or lease), and your child for uniform measurements. If your child has a medical condition, a doctor’s clearance is also required. Payment must be made in full at the time of registration, either by cash or credit card.

Children must be at least 4 years old by August 1st to be eligible to join our league. We welcome players between the ages of 4 and 16, with occasional Travel programs available for older athletes.

We welcome all players to join Inwood Little League. While our official district includes Inwood and Washington Heights up to 160th Street, players from outside this area are also eligible to register. However, those outside the district may be required to complete a waiver form, which applies only to participation in the Spring season.

Once registration is complete and managers and coaches are selected, players ages 8 and up will attend a tryout. Following tryouts, players are either drafted or assigned to teams, and managers receive their team rosters with contact information. Your child’s team manager will reach out at least one week before Opening Day to introduce themselves, share details about uniform distribution, and schedule practices. From that point forward, the manager will be your primary point of contact throughout the season.

Players are placed into divisions based on a combination of their age and skill level. A child’s "league age" is defined by Little League as their age as of August 31 of the current year. While age is the primary factor, adjustments may be made based on individual skill level, special circumstances, or specific needs identified during tryouts.

Games are held at Inwood Hill Park and Dyckman Park. Teams are encouraged to practice regularly; however, the frequency and timing of practices may vary depending on each coach’s availability. All of our coaches are dedicated volunteers who generously donate their time while also balancing work and family commitments. Most teams typically practice once per week for one to two hours, usually in the late afternoon at Inwood Hill Park. Once your child is assigned to a team, their manager will reach out with specific practice details. We kindly ask that families make an effort to attend practices and communicate with coaches in advance if their child will be absent.

In our younger divisions—Rookies, SuperStars, and Farm—players are evenly assigned to teams by the Farm Division Director, based on age and experience level to ensure balanced teams.

For the Minors division and above, players are selected by team managers through a draft process.

Please note: We are unable to accommodate special team or buddy requests.

Once team assignments are finalized, your child’s manager will reach out to introduce themselves and provide additional details.

Tryouts may take place either outdoors or indoors, with each age group session lasting approximately one hour. During the tryout, each player will field three ground balls and two pop flies, throwing the ball back to a coach after each play—there is no hitting or running involved. The purpose of tryouts is to evaluate each player’s skill level to ensure proper placement in the appropriate division and to help managers create well-balanced teams.

In the Minors, majors, and Seniors every player is guaranteed a minimum of two innings in the field and one at-bat per game. Beyond that requirement, additional playing time is determined at the manager’s discretion.

In our younger divisions—Rookies, SuperStars, and Farms—we ensure maximum participation. Every child plays in the field for the entire game and bats once each inning, giving all players a chance to stay active and involved throughout.

Each year, Inwood Little League kicks off the season with a festive Opening Day Parade, bringing together players, parents, community organizations, and even a marching band. Teams gather at 11:30 AM at 30 Nagle Avenue (in the schoolyard by the Nagle Y), where players should arrive in full uniform—though gloves, cleats, and bats should be left at home. Parents are encouraged to march behind their child’s team. The parade begins promptly at 12:00 PM with a police escort and follows a route up Nagle Avenue, across Dyckman Street, down Broadway (which will have its north side closed for the event), and onto 218th Street, ending at Field 6 in the Inwood Hill Park peninsula for the Opening Day ceremony. Please check the league calendar for updated dates and times. Only players, coaches, and league administrators are permitted on the field during the ceremony, which includes brief remarks from the league president and other local leaders, and lasts about 45 minutes. Players will be dismissed uniformly to their parents following the event. After the ceremony, two games will be played: a Majors game on Field 6 and a Seniors game on Field 1—spectators are welcome to stay and enjoy the action!

Unless there are unforeseen delays, uniforms are typically distributed one week prior to Opening Day. Your team’s manager will reach out with the specific date, time, and location for pick-up. Uniforms must be worn to the Opening Day parade and to all games.

Full league schedules will be posted on our website prior to the start of each season. Individual team schedules will be distributed to managers approximately one week before Opening Day. Your team’s manager will share the schedule with you once it becomes available.

For both games and practices, all players are required to have a glove that is appropriately sized for their age, and boys must wear a protective cup. While not mandatory, baseball cleats (rubber or plastic only—no metal spikes) are recommended, as well as athletic clothing for practice, such as sweatpants instead of shorts. A bat is also optional, and many players share bats with teammates. Batting helmets are provided by the league and shared among players, although you are welcome to bring your own. Regardless of what equipment your child brings, we strongly recommend labeling all personal items with your child’s name to avoid mix-ups.

All game cancellations—whether due to weather or other circumstances—are determined by a league official (either an umpire or commissioner). Once a decision is made, all team managers are promptly notified. It is then the manager’s responsibility to inform players and parents.

In most cases, cancellation decisions are made and communicated at least one hour before game time.

Your team’s manager is your primary point of contact for any questions or concerns throughout the season. If you're unable to reach your manager, please reach out to the commissioner of your division for assistance. For matters that require attention from a league official, you can contact us directly at inwoodbaseball@gmail.com.

The league is always looking for dedicated volunteers to serve as coaches—no prior experience is required! Coaching is a rewarding way to support local kids, build community, and make a positive impact. To get started, simply fill out a volunteer application online or pick up a paper form at our office. Once submitted, a league representative will follow up with you. Please note that all volunteers are required to complete a background check as part of the application process.

Many local businesses proudly sponsor teams in Inwood Little League—a meaningful way to support both the league and the children in our community. As a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, all donations and sponsorships are 100% tax-deductible. Sponsorship costs typically range from $500 to $1,200, and in return, your organization’s name will appear on team uniforms, with the team itself named after your business. For more details on how to become a sponsor, please visit our Sponsor page.

If a player is injured during a game or practice, the manager will immediately contact the player’s parent or guardian. If they cannot be reached, the designated emergency contact will be notified. If no contacts are available, the manager will take appropriate action, such as transporting the player to urgent care or the hospital.

An incident report will be completed within 24 hours and submitted to the league.

Inwood has proudly served the community for over 75 years and is officially chartered with both Little League and Babe Ruth League. As part of our affiliation with these organizations, comprehensive player insurance is a mandatory requirement—ensuring the safety and protection of every child on the field.
