Two All-Star Teams Win Districts

on

The 11U and 14U all-star teams both won the district championships. Finally, after years of waiting, those banners are back home.

Despite losing their first game, the 11U Eagles, won the next five straight to capture the title for the first time in 15 years. The Eagles actually had to beat the previously undefeated South Riverdale team twice in the finals. In the first game, Inwood stole the victory with a walk-off hit in the bottom of the sixth inning. The second game was a blow out, and we walked away champions.

Manager Juan Moreiras was proud of his team, especially “the way they came together and believed in themselves.” Moreiras added, “they played their best baseball when it counted.”

The 14U team had a slightly lighter schedule as they only had to beat one other team. But the Eagles had to beat West Side Little League twice, and they did so convincingly. This is the first Junior League banner we have brought home since 2010. That’s 13 years. Some of these kids weren’t even born yet!

Manager Sonny Bowie remarked that he “knew we could take the district” when he saw the kids playing in spring league. But it wasn’t just the talent. “The kids played as as team,” Bowie said. “They trusted each other and bailed each other out.”

Congrats to both teams. And of course, to the parents. “The teams were successful because the parents were committed,” Moreiras noted. “They always showed up early and never missed a game.”
