Follow up on June 20 Incident in the Park

on

In response to the incident on June 20 (details below), members of the league met with Aneudy Castillo, commanding officer of the 34th Precinct. We sought enhanced security in the areas around the upper field of Inwood Hill Park.

Inspector Castillo showed genuine interest in the events surrounding the recent assault of a spectator at a league-held event. Despite his precinct being chronically short of personnel, Inspector Castillo gave us his personal assurance that “additional resources will be provided” to ensure safety. This will include up to ten officers patrolling the park in the evening hours.

At a time when our Summer League is fast approaching, this is welcome news.

We are grateful to the Inspector for his commitment to this problem and look forward to enhanced security in the area around the upper fields.
